7 March, KUCHING: The visitors, Sabah FC maintain their 100% winning record in Liga Super 2023 by registering a hard-fought 2-1 victory over home team, Kuching City FC at Stadium Negeri in a match played on a waterlogged pitch after a heavy downpour in Kuching since afternoon.
Kuching City FC who was thrashed 0-5 at home by Selangor FC recently started the match brightly with some brilliant moves and passes but it was the visitors who took the lead in the 23 minutes courtesy of their Indonesian import player, Saddil Ramdani upon receiving a pass from captain Park Tae-su with his low shot beating Kuching City FC custodian, Julian Schwarzer.
The home team did not give up as they continue to press Sabah FC defense in search of an equaliser and their hard work pays off in the second minutes of injury time before the breather as their Liberian hitman, Abu Kamara scores from close range beating Sabah FC keeper, Damien Lim.
The second half was a 50-50 affair as both teams struggle to play their normal game as the pitch turns slippery and muddy resulting the players needs to pump high balls to make a pass to their teammates but it was Sabah FC Telmo Castanheira who scored to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
Kuching City FC head coach Irfan Bakti made a few substitution in hoping it might revive the match for the home team but Sabah FC defense stood firm to deny them any chances of revival.
Tensions were also high with flying tackles and minor altercation between both sides as frustration crept in with a few yellow cards being shown to players by referee, Ahmad Zuhaidi Dzulkifli to keep the game in order.
The match ended 1-2 with Sabah FC head coach, Datuk Ong Kim Swee's side taking home full points and Irfan Bakti chargers losing for the second consecutive time at home after three matches.
