AKID WILL HEAD FOR SUPERPOLE WITH FASTEST LAPTIME
Md Akid Aziz of ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team clocked in fastest in the qualifying session of PETRONAS Malaysian Cub Prix Championship, Round 8 for the CP150 category.
With three more rounds to go towards the end of the season, the riders are pumped up and are more aggressive in defending their standings as well as in hitting the fastest lap time. This time around, Akid’s strengths were presented in his manoeuvring techniques and the ability to utilise the right technical skills when he made the fastest in the qualifying session at 43:079s.
Akid who currently sits at the seventh spot overall with a total of 55 points has taken the podium once at the third spot this season. In the last season, Akid made it to the third spot overall with six podiums including one win. This season however seems to have been a challenging year with a drop in his performance level.
Commenting on the session, Akid said, “Today’s qualifying session has been a good one for me. I made the fastest time with the right setup on my machine. I was comfortable with the machine and it gave me the confidence that I needed.”
“Tomorrow will definitely be a challenging and highly competitive one but I will do my best in the Super-Pole and final race session.”
Coming in at the second fastest position was Md Aiman Tahiruddin of PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha – CKJ Racing, logging in at 43:117s.
At the third fastest spot, it was Md Haziq Md Fairues of PETRONS Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor who clocked in fastest in the second round which was held at the same circuit. He marked 43:268s for this round.
For the CP125 category, Md Shafiq Rasol of ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team clocked in fastest in the qualifying session.
Shafiq who currently takes the top spot overall with a total of 119 points has definitely made an impressive mark this season. He has not only taken a spot on the podium four times but created a hat-trick with three consecutive wins in the last rounds.
For the qualifying session this evening, Shafiq marked fastest at 45:710s. In Round 2 which was held at the same circuit, Shafiq took the second fastest in the qualifying session at 45:702s.
Commenting on the session, Shafiq said, “My machine was in superb condition today and I was able to maximize its use to clock in the fastest time.”
“For tomorrow, I will continue using the same setup for the machine and I will give my best shot for the Shoot-Out session as well as the final race.”
Md Adib Rosley of YYPang Yamaha Racing Team logged second fastest when he completed the qualifying session at his fastest, 45:867s.
At the third fastest place, Md Hafiza Rofa of ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team clocked in at 45:950s.
Meanwhile, for the Wira KBS category, Md Farid Hakimi Farid Sezli of Idemitsu Honda Yam Racing team scored the fastest in the qualifying session this evening.
Farid who currently takes the fifth spot overall with a total of 56 points have showcased an improved performance in the Tangkak Circuit. In Round 2 which was held at the circuit, Farid only managed to make it at the tenth spot in the qualifying session, clocking in at 48:036s. However, he returned with a better lap time this round when he made the fastest for the session at 46:610s.
For five rounds this season, Farid strived to retain his position at the top six spot. Last season, he completed the 10 rounds of the championship at the ninth spot overall with a total of 77 points.
Commenting on the session, Farid said, “For the qualifying session, I am thankful that I was able to find the right setup for the machine. Consequently, it resulted in a better lap time compared to my previous one at this circuit.”
“For the Shoot-Out session and final race tomorrow, I will do my best. My aim is to retain my overall momentum so that I am able to stay among the front troop.”
Md Adam Haikal Jahar of PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha – 31 Racing clocked in second fastest at 46:692s.
Adam’s teammate, Md Syamil Amsyar Md Iffende took the third fastest spot when he logged in at 46:808s.
